Erna Anna Marie Crosby, a resident of Columbia, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Vantage Point Assisted Living in Columbia, MD. She was 94. Erna was born on April 19, 1930, in Nordendorf, Germany and was the daughter of the late Andreas Riesch and Marie (nee Mueller) Riesch. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George Clifton Crosby (US Army ret CSGM), as well as her two brothers, Andreas and Rudi.
Erna’s life revolved around her precious family. Her two sons, Robert Crosby (Lisa) of Leland, NC, and Ronald Crosby (Suzie) of Cibolo, TX, were her pride and joy. In addition to her sons, she is survived by her four grandchildren Shannon Curtis, Ross Crosby (Carissa), Brandt Crosby (Melissa), Tyler Crosby (Julie), and four great-grandchildren: Kaitlynn Curtis, Camden Crosby, Hayes Crosby and Reese Crosby. She is also survived by her last living sibling, Trudy Yeager.
She met future husband Army soldier George after WWII, while working as a telephone operator at Sheridan Barracks, Augsburg, Germany. The family moved often. They lived in Germany, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, rotating as the Army moved them. At each assignment, Erna’s main focus was as a mom to her boys and a wife to George. She was a Red Cross volunteer for over 40 years at various military hospitals, and loved to go bowling. Friends and family will remember her most for her dedication to her family.
The Crosby family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, from noon to 1 pm. The funeral service will begin at 1pm. Interment will follow to MD Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD.
